Georges M. Halpern was born a French citizen, in Warsaw, Poland, and attended the Sorbonne, then the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Paris. In 1964, he received his M.D. degree, and was awarded a Silver Medal for his thesis on the Histamine-releasing properties of Colistin. He subsequently qualified in Nuclear Medicine, and was board certified in General Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Allergy & Clinical Immunology. In 1992, he received his Ph.D./D.Sc. degree, with highest honors and jury honors, from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Paris XI (Paris Sud-Chatenay Malabry), for his thesis on Skin hyperreactivity and Histamine.

Georges M. Halpern practiced Internal Medicine, Allergy/Immunology in Paris [1964-1987], served as outside consultant for WHO [infectious and parasitic diseases, public health issues], and conducted research in allergy, immunology, psychopharmacology, nutrition, and public health.

After a Visiting Professorship and Research Scholarship at Stanford University (1981-83) Dr. Halpern was Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of California @ Davis, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, Allergy & Clinical Immunology (1983-97), and Professor of Nutrition, College of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences (1994-97). He is currently Emeritus.

Georges M. Halpern has published seventeen books, 56 book chapters, 138 original papers, and hundreds of reviews and abstracts. He has worked and/or lectured in 76 different countries. He did hold a part-time position [Pathology; Chinese Medicine; Pharmacology] at the University of Hong-Kong (1990-1991 & 1999-2002), was the beneficiary of multiple Visiting Professorships (Taiwan, Philippines, etc.) and is currently Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Halpern has also been, and remains very active as a consultant for governmental, national and international agencies, in public health issues, infectious diseases, asthma and allergic conditions. He also actively consults with pharmaceutical, diagnostic, nutraceutical companies, as well as for the food, wine, and water industries.

In 1985, he was awarded the Medal of Vermeil by the City of Paris for his outstanding contributions to medicine, dedication to patients, and personal achievements.

Georges M. Halpern is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (London), and of 26 other prestigious national, foreign and international academies and scientific societies. He is also a Commander in the French National Order of the Mérite Agricole, for his original contributions to enology and French cuisine.
