Hong Kong, with its obsession for health and nutrition, and its cult for the most pleasurable dining experience was the natural place to attract, as a magnet, the best of the planet. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the other local universities are breeding and educating large number of students in the field of Chinese medicine and healthy nutrition, and these will help develop and create industries for a growingly health-conscious population. The Symposium will be a showcase for Hong Kong achievements and - more importantly - for its potentials an yet untapped resources. We wish to have Hong Kong become and develop as the center of a network of a combination of organic chemistry, Chinese medicine, food & beverages, and other industries. |

This 4th International Symposium will address ˇ§New Horizons in Chinese Medicines and Health Foodsˇ¨. The horizon is changing from dawn to dusk, from blue to clear to green and dark, and is never within reach; it is a metaphor for science, always visible and always changing. Chinese Medicines are many in nature, origins, practices, results and promises; our mission is to bring universal scientific criteria and methods into Chinese Medicine while using the admirable and complex historical bounty that its Tradition provides. Health Foods are nutraceuticals, functional foods, supplements all bundled into one category; several Asian countries have designed specific requirements for ˇ§health foodsˇ¨ and we should have animated discussions on regulation as well as health benefits -or dangers. We will address genomics, cancer and malignancies, immunomodulation and inflammation, cardiovascular diseases, liver cancer and hepatitis, neurodegenerative conditions, and Alzheimerˇ¦s and memory. We have invited a number of prestigious keynote speakers who will also answer your questions and provide valuable updated information. The congenial, casual and interactive atmosphere that many of you have enjoyed is our trademark, and late October is the very best time of the year to enjoy Hong Kong ˇVjust before Halloween! The morning poster section will be presented (oral and posters) by young investigators. This is a unique opportunity for researchers who are involved in food, natural/Chinese medicines or nutraceuticals. The abstract of each poster will be published in a special issue of Progress in Nutrition after editor's review.
