Food For Asian Health

Welcome to 6^th IFFS!

This 6^thInternational Functional Food Symposium will focus on the “Food for Asian Health”. We intend to focus on New Developments in areas that should serve the Asian populations better and take into account: unique cultures, nutritional needs, metabolic characteristics, economics and major changes in the environment. Macronutrients are essential nutrients to provide energy for us, their importance should be well stressed; Chinese foods are also Medicine, and many Chinese Medicines are indeed foods; a number of presentations will emphasize recent discoveries that confirm this cultural mantra. Safety issues are also critical, and we run the Food Safety and Technology Research Centre; we will address recent issues. Beverage development is emerging in Asia: their recent advances should be of great interest for us. Finally our students, faculty, leaders and the Hong Kong population at large are very conscious of the role that we should play in Asia; one is to bring current advanced medical & surgical care to some of the needy and isolated populations of Asia; Dr. Junshi Chen from Centre of Disease Control in China will share his view on the latest development in diet, nutrition and chronic disease in China; Luc Janssens, of the Lao Rehabilitation Foundation will introduce his magnificent achievements and motivate each participant to act to help and support the less favoured. We will also organize a large Poster session, reserved to young (<40) investigators and junior faculty on the general theme of the Symposium; they will present and promote their research, results and projects; by offering such a unique opportunity, we will show how exciting and promising this area is!
